One of the largest wireless providers in America, AT&T, is promoting the reduction of electronic waste in landfill sites this week in conjunction with the Environment Protection Agency. April 5-11th is the National Cell Phone Recycling Week.
Customers are being encouraged to donate their old mobile phones and accessories in AT&T’s stores, online and in the community.
Last year they collected 4.2 million old mobile phones & 1.8 million batteries & accessories for recycling. AT&T are also encouraging customers to sign up for paperless billing and will plant a tree for every customer that signs up for this.
AT&T are being more environmentally friendly in other ways too. Last month, in order to reduce wasting of plastic and paper, they began using smaller packaging for their mobile phones, batteries & accessories .
They have also introduced a new phone charger which doesn’t use any electricity when left plugged in and is more efficient.
