Computer Disposals Ltd (CDL) has topped this year’s Green IT Awards held at London Zoo. CDL scooped the ‘Recycling Scheme of the Year’ and received a bonsai tree.
The readers of Green IT Magazine nominated CDL for the award because of its innovative recycling scheme for PCs and they beat all the competition to the award that was presented on Earth Day.
CDL are very pleased to have received such an accolade and encouraged that their work is having a beneficial impact both environmentally and professionally. However, the company is not content to rest on its laurels and will continue to strive to improve its business methods.
CDL’s progressive approach to IT recycling has helped it to become a leader in environmentally-friendly electronic equipment disposal services. The company has already built up a substantial reputation as an innovator in this field and continues to keep ahead of government legislation and is a leader for others in the industry.
The original purpose of the Green IT Awards was to encourage firms and raise the bar for standards in the industry. The Awards look to identify and highlight UK IT companies who achieve high environmental standards.
A UN study revealed that e-waste was rapidly leading to a dangerous increase in greenhouse gases at landfill sites and this has resulted in gathering momentum in electronics recycling. Increased attention is now being given to avoid redundant laptops, desktop PCs, mobile phones and other electronic equipment going to landfill.
