Qtel has joined up with Qatari Diar Vinci Construction (QDVC) who have agreed to become a corporate partner in Qtel’s e-waste recycling programme.
QDVC has a large reach across the region and the company believes they will be able to recycle a significant amount of e-waste. They have agreed to place Qtel’s mobile phone collection boxes at construction sites and offices across the country.
The boxes will collect various types of e-waste, including old mobile phones, batteries and accessories, and there will be special collection days for larger electronic items like laptops and computers.
QDVC deputy chief executive Hamad al-Bishri said: “We are pleased and proud to support Qtel’s initiative. It is also a good opportunity to raise awareness among our employees about the recycling process of electronic devices”
Qtel’s e-waste recycling programme aims to provide for the “green” disposal of old mobile phones and other devices that contain potentially hazardous heavy metals. The scheme is being supported by the Ministry of Environment and the “Qatar National Campaign for the Recycling of Mobile Phones, Batteries and Accessories”.
Qtel said it is looking to expand it’s programme by signing up more partners like QDVC, so that all residents in Qtar can easily recycle their old items. The executive director for group communications Adel al-Mutawa said:
“At Qtel, we are looking to work with a wide range of partners to support this programme and to provide recycling boxes in shops, offices and residences across the country,”
