Mobile phone recycler RPC Recyle has doubled it’s turnover after setting up a new operation in Finland.
The UK based company was set up in 2004 and buys old mobiles through its website. Around 30,000 mobiles are collected every month. High value phones are refurbished and resold to markets in the UK, Europe, Middle East and the US. Low value working phones are repaired if necessary and then sold onto Africa or to an auction house in Hong Kong for use in China.
The new operation in Finland means that old phones are now bought in Finland and re-sold exclusively to RPC Recyle. The company also plans to franchise its website and possibly set up franchises in Australia, Greece and New Zealand.
Director Ian Hodges said: “We expected the Finland business to make a loss in its first year, but after launching it in April it is already turning over good figures and making a profit. We are expecting turnover to be in excess of £25m this year. It’s an exciting time for us and obviously a bit of a struggle to keep up with the growth. If we take on franchises in other countries there are more good things ahead for the company, as the franchises will involve little work for us but we will reap some of the benefits.”
