The latest charity to recycle mobile phones for money is Broadway, a homelessness charity based in London.
The campaign is called ‘Homes for Phones’ and aims to raise funds to help the more than 500 people who sleep rough in England every night as well as the 50,000 who sleep in homeless hostels on a regular basis. The money raised from the recycling campaign will help fund Broadway’s work to keep people off the streets and support them into training and work placements.
It is estimated that there are around 80 million old phones sitting around in peoples’ homes so there is a lot of potential to raise a lot of money for the homeless charity. Broadway will receive at least £3 for every mobile phone that is donated to them for recycling.
Broadway’s Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Rebecca Sycamore said: “The money raised from the campaign will help fund our work with homeless people in London, helping them to find and keep a home and supporting them into training and work.”
In order to promote the campaign, Broadway have launched a photo competition. People are being asked to send in a photo of the first thing they think of when someone says ‘home’. The first prize is a dinner with Phil Spencer from Channel 4’s property programme Location, Location, Location.
